Rehoboth, New Mexico December 1 - December 10

We set up our camper at Rehoboth. Our plans for December 1 were to go the Red Rock Balloon Festival early in the morning. Unfortunately, due to wind and snow, it was cancelled that morning.  We then went to the Mission House at Rehoboth to see what we would be working on that week - the kitchen and the porch needed some love!  I took the porch pics after we had taken out about 15 chairs and swept up.

We ran into Bob Ippel and said they needed 2 servers for lunch. So Ramona and I went to help serve lunch.

Kurt went to the admin building with Ben and started organizing boxes in a storage room. Darlene was tickled pink that this was done and she could reach the boxes she needed.

In the evening, we bundled up and went to the balloon festival. We were hoping to see the balloon glow, but the weather did not allow the balloons to be inflated. But they did a candle stick instead. It was fun to talk to the balloon people and learn about their balloons.

We watched a few Navaho dancers as well.

Saturday, December 2, we got up early to watch the balloons launch.  They were not sure they would launch due to wind.  We went up pyramid rock hoping to watch the balloons from there. A snow covered hike.

The balloons were not able to go up, but the hike was fantastic!

After our hike we went to the Window in the Rock  and the museum at Navaho Nation.

After church on Sunday, December 3, we went hiking at Milk Ranch.  It was rather muddy, but another great hike!

After hiking, we went to an arch to watch the sun set. Spectacular!!!

Monday, December 4 was a work day.  I filed music and Kurt cleaned up the windows, getting them ready for paint.  We checked out a few things on campus the we might be able to use.  As we walked, we spotted a road runner! They are so cool!

Tuesday we painted all day. Kurt spotted our neighborhood  road runner and got a great video!

Wednesday, Kurt and I visited the choir class and sang the Hallelujah Chorus with the choir. So much fun!  I was also the “professional” page turner for Jack Ippel. 😂
After choir, Kurt and I served lunch. We learned howto say Merry Christmas in Navaho - Yáʼátʼééh Késhmish!
After lunch, we finished painting! The kitchen looked so much better. New floors, ceiling and countertops will come later.

We cleaned ourselves up and went with Arendsen’s and Beversluis’ to El Rancho for a sippie and dinner.  It was excellent!

During the night, Kurt came up with a brilliant idea to store the camper at Rehoboth if they had room and come back again to volunteer the end of January. We would not go to Arizona then to store the camper.  So…

Thursday, December 7, Deanna and Nate took the volunteers out for breakfast to Grandpa’s.  Thank you for a wonderful breakfast!

Kurt and I asked Deanna if we could store the camper there and she said YES! So we decided to get supplies to store the camper and changed our plans.
When we returned, the Arendsen’s and Beversluis’ had finished the porch with a few things from Ditto and furniture we found on campus. I think it’s charming!

In the afternoon we all went for a hike to Church Rock. Stunning hike!

Friday I went to choir again to watch. They are so good!  Then Kurt and I served lunch. In the afternoon Jack took us on a tour of the campus. Such an impressive place!
After supper Jack, Cindy, Ramona, Krista and I went to the basketball game - a tournament game. Yup - Kurt, Mike and Ben stayed back.

And we won!

Our last day, Jack took us on a hike to a sheep’s cave where we met others to sing Christmas Carols. A special time indeed!

A little Christmas tree grew in the cave where ornaments were placed.

After our Carol sing, Jack took us on a hike to the amphitheater.  There we carved our names in the wall.

Krista had to carve her name higher than the rest of cared to go! 😁

Then we hiked to the window rock at Rehoboth.

This day was my favorite day of hiking!  We were pooped when we finished, but loved it! Thanks Jack and Cindy!
To finish off the week, we all went to Jerry’s for an early supper.  If you are in Gallop, you need to eat at Jerry’s!!

Sunday, December 10, we packed up.  We ran out of water and had some trouble putting the antifreeze in the camper, but we finally got it to work.  We left around 10am and headed back to Michigan. We got home Monday, December 11.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas. March 1-6, 2026

February 28, we traveled to San Angelo State Park.  We only stayed 1 night to travel on to Palo Duro Canyon State Park.  We went out to eat...
