Galveston Island State Park & Pete’s place. Friday the 13th of February thru the 16th

Friday the 13th we headed to Galveston State Park. It was quite foggy when we got to the coast.

We set up camp, went for dinner and noticed the roof was torn back about 3feet - which happened while we travelled. The roof was replaced 6 months ago. 😠  We went up top and used some gorilla tape, but it was too damp to stick very well. A neighbor gave us some roof tape, but that wasn’t enough.  We knew we had to figure something out…

We called Galveston RV Roofing Saturday morning. Pete and his helper Brian came out within the hour and helped us out.  We knew there would be rain and high winds that evening, so they went and got a tarp to put over Beauty to keep her dry over night.  They also gave us options on what we could do. We were scheduled to leave the State Park on Sunday and there were no sites available to stay. Pete said he had room by his trailer and we could stay there for Sunday night while they worked on the roof.  So very helpful!

The rest of the afternoon we spent on a hike.  We spotted a Roseate Spoonbill which was really cool.

We also checked out the beach - but it was too windy and chilly to stay.

We went for dinner and headed into Galveston.  Bad idea!  They were getting ready for a Mardi Gras parade.  It was crazy!  We couldn’t get through, so we headed back and ended up at Doc Holiday’s Roadhouse.

We settled into the trailer and got things ready to leave on time for Sunday morning.  We checked the weather because we knew storms were in the area and coming our way. Then our phones went off - a tornado warning. We were in the middle of where the storm was coming. So we went to the bathhouse with all the other campers to ride out the storm. Storms are a great way to hang out with all your neighbors and their dogs!

We hung out in the bathhouse for about 45 minutes and then headed back. No damage to any campers.
Sunday morning we woke up to beautiful blue skies! We packed up and headed to Pete’s.

Pete recommended going to Patron restaurant for breakfast - so we did.  There was a musician playing outside the restaurant and sent the music inside.  So interesting to me.  Kurt ordered his biscuits and gravy (which were ok) and I ordered a Torta (eggs, cheese, avocado, chorizo and jalapeños). My sandwich was fantastic!! We also ordered mimosas.

We went back to Pete’s and the guys were working on the roof. We hung out for a while inside the rig.

We went to a park on the bay to give Tito a break from all the stomping and smells of the glue.

We spent the night at Pete’s and the next morning Brian came back to finish up.  Thank you Pete, Brian and crew for your hard work fixing our roof!  We are so grateful! God protected and provided in many ways!

We are ready to leave Galveston!  Memories were definitely made here!
