Heading Home!

Time to head home!  We left Florida on Friday, March 14.

Our first stop is Forsyth, Georgia.  We have a hilly site and it close to the highway - but we are at a Journey KOA, so it is usually close to a highway or main road.

We went to dinner at Her Majesty’s Kitchen - creole cuisine. The food, the drinks, the service - so good. Our server Nicole was exceptional! The whole experience was top notch!

Some good music in the background!

Peppered Jam Lamb Chops
Fried Lobster with Coconut Curry Sauce

The forecast for Saturday night was a huge front and storms with high winds, tornadoes and flooding predicted for Chattanooga where we were headed. We decided to stay in Forsyth for another night where the forecast was not as ominous.  We found a 7 mile hike.  There were a few hills (we are not in Florida anymore), but nothing too bad.

For dinner we went to Fox City Brewing Company. The beers were good and the food was amazing!  Kurt had shrimp and grits and I had a gumbo.

Forsyth did not disappoint! The 2 restaurants were superb!

During the night we did have quite a thunderstorm, but not super high winds, flooding or tornadoes.  God always goes before us!

We left Forsyth on Sunday and headed to Bowling Green, Kentucky.

We ate at Pub by Novo - which we had been to before.  We figured that out when we pulled into the parking lot. 🤣

March 17, Saint Patrick’s Day and Kurt’s birthday, we headed to Indianapolis, Indiana.

We ate at Du Lit for dinner.  Hmmm…interesting place. We walked in and the young lady let us pick our table and gave us our menus.  She informed us that she was the waitress, cook, and server.  She was not able to serve us alcohol.  There would be someone coming in 20 minutes or so who could.  Ok.  Kurt ordered a steak and I ordered a spicy pasta (Darth Gator).  We ordered our wine for when someone came in who could serve us. Kurt was a little worried about his steak when it was a one person show.  She was very sweet - but his steak came out medium to medium well. The rest of the food was very good.

Tuesday morning we left Indianapolis and headed home!

We brought some sunshine back to Michigan (haha - like we can control that!). But it is good to be back in the Mitten.

Hart Springs, March 7-13, 1025

We decided to head to a more northern part of Florida - starting our trek back to Michigan. So we went back to Hart Springs. Traffic was slow, but we made it!

Saturday it rained ALL day! So we played a little golf! ⛳️

It was still raining Sunday morning .  We “went” to church in the morning and had communion. (Thanks Matt Hanegraaff for the elements!)

The rain finally ended and we were able to hike in the campground.  Everything was much greener than 3 weeks earlier. Quite pretty!

Manatee

We ate in Sunday night and enjoyed our egg hash.

When we decided to go to bed, I noticed a big wet spot on the bed.

The rain had come in through our ceiling vent that obviously is not sealed well. So…this is our quick fix at 11:00 at night.  Good old Saran Wrap and Duct Tape!! Something to fix when we get home.

We did a lot of biking, walks in the woods, the pool and eating at our favorite restaurants again.

Resurrection Fern
So many deer!
Chicken Bowl at Green Barn
Tuna Bowl

Best steak ever at Off the Beet
Mediterranean Pasta

I had the pool to myself.  The water was COLD!

Pine Island February 25-March 6, 2025

We traveled through Matlacha on our way to our destination on Pine Island.  Matlacha was devastated by hurricane Ian 2 1/2 years ago. They are still working on the bridge and there are broken buildings - and some buildings are just gone including Bert’s where we had eaten before.

Our campsite was nice and we enjoyed our stay in Pine Island!

The eagle nest across from our campground. 🦅

Wednesday, February 26, we biked to a couple nice little hikes.

Saturday, March 1, we decided to cross the bridge (which took forever!) and take a ride through memory lane in Cape Coral.  So many good memories when Kyle and Kristen lived there!

Their old house.
The Burrowing Owls

Cranberry Pumpkin Seabass! The best fish ever!
Almond Crusted Scallops! Kurt’s favorite!

Tuesday, March 4, we headed toward Punta Gorda for a hike at Pinewood Flats.

Other days, we spent at the pool, biking, walking and eating out. We saw eagles almost everyday throughout the island. Such a majestic bird! I was mad at myself for forgetting my good camera in Michigan!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas. March 1-6, 2026

February 28, we traveled to San Angelo State Park.  We only stayed 1 night to travel on to Palo Duro Canyon State Park.  We went out to eat...
