Saturday we left Rehoboth and headed to Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Our campsite was quite nice with a lovely view. We went to Bigfoot and had a suprisingly great dinner! I had the crab cakes and Kurt had a lobster roll with rosemary fries.
The sunset was beautiful as it reflected on the lake to the east.
After church Sunday morning, we went for a hike.
Gambel's Quail
Scarlett Hedgehog Cactus
Before packing up on Monday, we did a 2 mile hike in the campground.
Jack Rabbit
Black Throated Wren
A Verdin
We arrived at Las Cruces KOA on a very hazy day, but we really liked our site! We went to dinner at La Posta. Great salsa! Bought some!
Tuesday, Kurt’s birthday, we headed to White Sands National Park. It was quite busy! You could rent a sled to slide on the white sand for $17 + $10 deposit. Seeing how there was quite a line for the sleds and knowing Mike and Krista had trouble sliding down a few weeks earlier, we opted to not rent a sled. We laughed at the people trying to slide down. 😁 Not at all like sledding on snow! The sand was cool to the touch and never gets hot even with the sun beating down on it. Instead of walking to water, it’s just in the middle of the desert. Because it was so hazy, it was hard to see the mountains in the background.
