Venice, Italy - October 10-12

Thursday we left Rome by train to Venice through the beautiful countryside of Italy.

We arrive at hotel at around 8:45 and went for a bite to eat - where the Timmers and Beversluis’ caught up to us.
Friday morning we at breakfast at our hotel and did some shopping in Benice! What fun! Even Kurt found a couple good things to buy!

After shopping, we met at Saint Mark’s Square for a guided tour around the area.

Oldest Cafe in Europe and possibly the world.

Select is a better Spritz than Aperol…so we’ve been told!

After our tour, we went on a Gondola tour. We shared our Gondola with Karen and Mark.

Following our Gondola ride, we went with Mark and Karen to dinner. We hoped to get the Select Spritzer, but they ran out! So we had the second best, the Campari Spritzer.  Still so good!  We also ordered the creamed cod which was recommended by our tour guide.  Kurt ordered seafood spaghetti and I had sea bass ravioli.  Both were very good!

We went back to Saint Marks and went up the tower for a beautiful view of Venice.

We finished the day with some natural gelato (found some basil lemon!!! LOVE!).

Saturday we got up early and took at boat to Murano and Burano.

First stop was Murano where they make the beautiful glass sculptures, chandeliers, glasses and so much more.  They gave a demonstration of how they make vases and a horse.  Amazing talent!

Then we travelled to Burano to watch a woman sew some Burano Lace.

This is a dying art because it takes so long to make and the younger generation is not interested. Again - beautiful!

Ok - after I took the video, they told us not to take videos.  Oops!

Burano was a pretty little town with colorful homes - the way the fishermen could find their homes when they came home after a long day of fishing.

We travelled back to Benice and strolled back to the hotel - shopping and having a snack of Bruschetta  with a Special Spritz.
