Congaree National Park and Poinsett State Park, October 20-23

Monday, October 20, we arrived at Poinsett State Park in South Carolina and set up camp.

We went to the town of Sumter and ate at Willie Sue’s.  No pics, but the best Salmon I’ve had and Kurt’s steak was excellent as well. Well worth the drive!

Tuesday we travelled 45 minutes to Congaree National Park. The Visitor Center was closed due to the government shutdown (so we could not get our book stamped), but the trails were open to hike. It’s a very nice park - and it was a peaceful easy flat hike.

This Pine tree was very wide and very tall!

When we got back to the camper, we had dinner and sat around the fire.  No wind and very pleasant!

Wednesday we hiked from our site in Poinsett.  This was a very nice hike with Spanish moss on the trees.

After our hike, we relaxed and sat outside reading. This little butterfly kept flitting around my feet.

We packed up Thursday morning and headed to Saint Mary’s, Georgia.

We arrived at our KOA, set up and went to dinner at Locals Dockside.  It was 2 for 1 margaritas- so we ordered those.  Not good - very watered down flavor.  We also ordered the Cajun triple tail fish - and that was fantastic!! Kurt’s sweet potato fries were amazing!

Thursday morning we packed up and headed to Hart Springs.
