We entered Death Valley and were greeted by a field of yellow flowers in the desert,.
Our trip through the mountains to Death Valley was quite curvy!
We set up camp at Sunset Campground in Death Valley, had dinner in the camper and sat outdoors, enjoying the warm weather and night sky.
View from our camper window.
Thursday we hiked the Gower Gulch Loop trail, a 6 mile hike. Lots of rocks to climb over. A great hike!!
After our hike, we stopped to get gas. Wow! Not cheap in Death Valley!
We ate dinner in the camper again and sat outside in the evening.
Friday we hiked the Mosaic Canyon, a slot canyon.
After our hike, we took a drive to the Ubehebe Crater. We did not hike around it because we figured we had hiked enough . Plus it was super windy and cold there.
When we got back to camp, a big rv came and chose a spot right next to us. If we opened the windows, we could’ve held hands. We lost our view and didn’t really like looking into their rv, so we moved a little ways and had our view of the mountains again.
We decided to go out to dinner and ate at the golf course bar. Had a brat. Not great.
The wind picked up that night, so we did not sit outside. We battened down the hatches and stayed in for the night.
Saturday was a blustery day! The winds were at about 45 miles/hour. We hiked the Desolation Canyon a 3 1/2 mile hike. Not as hard as the other 2 days, but still a little rock scrambling. I twisted my knee jumping off a rock. Nothing major, just a little gimpy.
The colors in the canyon were amazing! The pics don’t capture the colors.
We then drove through the Artists Drive.
The dust from the wind in the valley
Following our little drive, we hiked a mile to the Natural Bridge.
We noticed in the distance green land before the Salt Flats. We were curious.
We drove to Badwater Basin to walk the salt flats.
Check out where sea level is.
Well, we had time to see if we could figure out what the green was that we saw. So we went to Devil’s Golf Course. We still need to research why it is called that.
Well, this is what we found…it was water.
We thoroughly enjoyed Death Valley! The beautiful colors in the canyons and variety of landscape show the Creators handiwork!
Now we start our adventures toward home.
