Mount Whitney & Manzanar, March 17-20, 2024

Sunday we headed to Lone Pine, CA. Our campground, has views of the Alabama Hills, Sierra Nevada on one side and Inyo Mountain Range on the other side. A beautiful place,

It was Kurt's birthday and we hoped to go out to eat and celebrate his day... It was a bomb. We went to a local joint, Mount Whitney Restaurant, and well...it was a disappointment.  Not the best service (never got our salads) and the food was just ok.  Maybe should of gotten a burger.

Kurt got up on time the next morning (I woke up about 15 minutes later) and took a pic of a marvelous sunrise!

We left to go on a 5 mile hike and came across this on the way to our hike...

Because of snow, we could not go up to the trail head. We were bummed. So, we went to another hike.  The Manzanar.  This was not what we were looking for, but totally appreciated this hike.  This was a camp that American Japanese were forced to go during WWII.  Not a proud moment for the US.  But good history to soak in.

Tuesday we went on a 1/2 mile hike in Alabama Hills that was delightful. A few hills and good views of Mount Whitney.

We then went on the 17 mile Movie Road - where many movies have been made - mostly old westerns.

Mt Whitney

The restaurant we wanted to go to for Kurt’s birthday, Seasons, opened on Tuesday. So we went there for supper to have a belated birthday dinner. Kurt had a New York Strip and I had Lamb Chops.  So delish!!

Totally enjoyed our stay in Lone Pine California!
